Descriptions

Today we have some cute, chubby, relaxed and engrossed animals sitting very comfortably, soon to be minting onto the Ethereum blockchain. The squishy, visually appealing creatures have been in production for the last 4 years. The Lazy Things is the first NFT collection and brainchild of Beijing-based artist Guodong Zhao, with added support from Gloss Creative Studio.

Who is Behind the Project

Juan Garcia, founder of Gloss Creative Studio is the founder of the project. Other than his position within Gloss, little is known about him.

The individual behind the project’s art is Guodong Zhao a highly talented 3D artist, based out of Beijing. His work was relatively unknown until becoming noticed in early 2018. Having been reposted from many Instagram accounts with massive followings including Artstation, Artselect, Behance and more – each of these accounts have millions of followers which is a testament to the popularity of Guodongs work.

For this project, Guodong has teamed up with Gloss Creative Studio a full-service digital studio and agency. Gloss operates a network of over 40 million followers across several Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok accounts. They have the reach and the power to be a powerful collaborator, driving targeted traffic and improving a brand’s presence where ever possible.
Gloss has served many high-profile clients including Amazon, Tesla, Bruno Mars, Tate Museum & More.

The team is fully comprehensive, offering a lineup of talented individuals. A lot of them are already established in the NFT space with large followings. A lot of them work for Gloss. The majority of the team is doxxed down to a personal profile level, although some are not.

About The Collection

The collection is a 10k pfp/avatar collection minting onto the Ethereum blockchain. The collection features a wide range of traits, such as headwear, eyewear, watches, accessories and more carefully placed onto 20 different animals – you are sure to find a favourite. Soft, squishy and bright – this collection is very well polished and the artwork is great.

In the way of utility the collection offers a form of staking, known as Hibernation. However, Hibernation offers the advantage of being a non-custodial form of staking where the NFT is not removed from your wallet and is instead locked up.
Lazy Things that are hibernating will accrue future benefits and rewards. What you earn depends on two factors – 1) The length of the hibernation period. 2) The cumulative hibernation time.
A solid benefit of Hibernation is that your Lazy will not be able to be stolen through techniques which rely on the standard transfer function.

Holders will also benefit from future unique experiences and rewards which include the upcoming Animated Lazy Things NFT airdrop, adding good value to the initial collection buy in.

The most ambitious step of the project is that the team are planning to create a fully immersive 3D animated television series. Holders will be involved in the storyline from the get-go. Some lucky holders may get to see their Lazy Thing NFT featured as the main character or cameo role in the series. When the Lazy Things Animated series goes live, holders will be entitled to a share of applicable revenue generated through the series.

Road Map

The Road Map does not feature any set dates or timeframe. It is rather brief but touches on the points made with a reasonable amount of detail.

Socials

  • Twitter – 96.2k followers | Joined July 2011 – Large twitter account. Tweets get good engagement. Regular tweets are made. The account has been recycled and appears to be something Gloss used in the past before turning it into the Lazy Things account in March this year.
  • Discord – 26.8k Members | 3.8k online – Verification by Wick and rule acceptance on entry. No commands. Shilling channel with no links. Chat moves along nicely with regular conversation.
  • Instagram – 6.1k Followers | 94 posts – Regular posts, plenty of project artwork and information. Posts get ok, to good engagement.

Smart Contract

Contract is not live, but it exists on Github, but is due some revisions still.

Price & Mint Date

The price is TBA, but supposedly it will not be free.

Mint date is TBA, but is rumoured to possibly be before the end of August 2022.

Conclusion

I like this project. They don’t have a whole lot of utility or solid plans for the future, but they have some basic ideas going forward. The team is all doxxed and they have a thriving and large community, before the Lazy Things became NFTs they were appreciated by many for a number of years – adding further depth to the pedigree of the brand.
The Whitelist seems to be nearly fully allocated and it seems like a very popular project judging by the socials. The artwork is great and offers a lot of variation. The staking feature (Hibernation) offers extra security and rewards to long terms holders. It’s a project aimed at rewarding the communities most devout followers.

Overall this is a nice project, they have great branding, good marketing and a lot of momentum. I would expect the project to mint out fairly fast and for things to go well post-mint if the team can keep positive traction.
